Durango High School, in Durango Colorado, provides a robust, comprehensive high school education to approximately 1,350 students.

Durango High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school in Durango, Colorado. It serves approximately 1,350 students. It serves approximately 1,350 students. [Dr. Jon Hoerl] My vision at Durango High School is to be the top public high school in the state of Colorado. I really believe that by setting the bar as high as we possibly can that all of our students will only benefit from that idea and from that high expectation. We have a mission here at Durango High School that we want to achieve excellence through positive relationships and high expectations for all of our kids. We want them to be excelling both on the court, on the field, in the theater, in the orchestra, taking advantage of all the opportunities that they have and then also excelling within the classroom to set themselves up for the opportunities that they want to pursue when they leave us.” Durango High School incorporates the district’s Portrait of a Graduate This is our north star, which empowers students with six skills and attributes that will help them be successful in life: empathetic collaborator, resilient risk-talker, agile thinker, creative problem-solver, confident communicator, and courageous leader. [Dr. Jon Hoerl] Extracurriculars are a great opportunity for our students here at Durango High School. We have over a thousand people that have participated in this past year and a great opportunity to get involved in a variety of different ways. We offer, I believe, 22 different sports opportunities for students. We have a tremendous theater, visual arts and performing arts program from the choir, to band to orchestra, to Troupe 1096. . We’ve got a tremendous number of clubs that meet during lunchtime. So there really is a place and a space for all of our students to participate. And we do firmly believe that if you’re going to participate, you’re going to graduate. We want to give some of our kids the opportunity to go straight into a four-year college path if that’s what they choose. We also want to give opportunities for students to get into a two-year path if that’s what they choose for that associate’s degree or that certification. They can earn innumerous number of college credits while they’re here with us so that can make it a much more affordable option when they leave us. But we also have students that want to go into the military, and we also have students who  want to go straight into industry.” Durango High School DHS offers a rigorous education, with Advanced Placement classes, 14 pathways in Career Technical Education programs along with concurrent programming opportunities with Pueblo Community College and Fort Lewis College, both in Durango. With that vision to be the top public high in the State of Colorado, we really have tried to create that comprehensive high school experience for everybody. And when you pair that with the idea of getting a world-class education a world-class education inside of our classrooms, opportunities to earn up to 42 college credit hours college credit hours by the time that you leave us, there really is a tremendous upside to being a Durango Demon.
