alright sorry about that first time using the community Zoom house Orion out some of the wrinkles I just appreciate everybody taking the time and effort and energy to be here today carbon out time out of your busy schedules my name is John heard principal Durango High School you are thinking for next year in the options that your students will have to select for a high-quality to Durango high school and an education do have a couple of people joining us today I got a Machamp annoy or athletic director who's going to be giving us an update we did get and receive news from NASA yesterday on some of our false course offerings and what that might look like chewy pop is our public information officer who's going to be helping monitor our chat and hopefully helping answer some of the questions of my come up while we have this conversation today but again just thank you for being here I appreciate your time and effort and I really excited to share with you our best thinking on what we're going to be doing moving into next year again it's really our job to adapt to our students and our staff and it and and our families and I know that many people are coming in and in many different places and I completely 100% understand that and that's why we really put together these three different options that we're going to be providing at the high school for our students be able to access to high-quality DHS education and continue to move themselves on their way to gaining their credits and an earning that DHS diploma the first option going to be providing is going to be in person instruction with safety measures and guidelines that are going to be in place I know it probably many of you have already had a chance to review the return to learn plan that our district has laid out and I do want to let you know that there is a little coffee on there went above and beyond the guidelines that were given by the state the CD in the CD HP offer high schools the opportunity to not be limited by just three contacts teachers per day and I think you're going to see that reflected our options are really taking a look out for next year we also are going to have our Blended model which includes both synchronous and asynchronous instruction and we'll get a little bit more in detail what that's going to look like for us and that also talk to you about a remote hybrid model very excited about this option for a kid I do want to do or take advantage of an online platform but still be connected to DHS and I connected to our BHS teachers which I think is going to be a huge selling point and effective program that is going to be great for our students moving forward it's always like to go back to our vision we do want to be the top public high school in the state of Colorado even in these very weird and uncertain times and really kind of keeping two land masses at the front of our vision is that student staff safety will continue to be our top priority along with the High Caliber education that you have come to expect from us. Durango high school and when we really thought about how to put these models together this is the one that makes the most to maintain those pieces there are three guiding principles that we really sat down and and put on paper to really help with our decision making process and the first two students safety as the safety of our students and staff II is maintaining a high level of act McGregor and then the third and I think just highly important is making sure that our students have engagement in their learning and be engaged to the school and what we're trying to accomplish I've heard from many how important that social interaction is going to be and really why we're trying to forgive opportunities for that to take place I also always like to go back and say that my Approach is not just as a principal but I'm sitting in the zoom room with you today as a parent as well for those of you that don't know I do have four children images my oldest is going to be a sophomore here at DHS and I've got a seventh-grader and I've got a 5th grader and a third grader so I'm really trying to think of this as a parent as well as what makes the most sense for my kids my kids education and how does that reflect and translate to the rest of my kid which I consider to be all of my DHS students when I really want to break down kind of the components so safety of his students and staff this but the things that we've really taken a look at in order to ensure that is doing cohorts of students and I know that's one of the questions that I've gotten from a couple of families is what is a cohort how are you going to cohort and we're going to get dive a little bit deeper into that just a couple of minutes but we are looking at cohorts I would have 20 or left for work on that is really kind of the the goal or the ID I think we would be able to make work I'm with inner safety guidelines I'm here at DHS we would also continue to practice social distancing we were also looking at depending on the number of students that we have to accommodate a school staggered start time one wave of students that potentially start at 8 in the morning and another wave of students that would start as late as 9:30 so we are looking at the possibility of having the staggered start times and it does two things for it allows for us to stagger the students and because they come into our building so we can in here to go safety guidelines that were trying to put in place and it also allow for students to have a little bit of variety or or variance in their day and also allows stagger our lunches and giving kids an opportunity to have a couple of different places and spaces that can happen will also again the multiple platforms and we're also going to be using our outdoor spaces Rose's luxuries and in privileges that we have a DHS is having a ton of outdoor space and especially we all know how beautiful Durango can be in the fall and having nice weather that can go all the way into potentially November are we want to maximize those outdoor spaces and get kids up used to be outside as well we will be modifying our building there will be no lockers that will be allowed to be used until further notice for this upcoming school year so you know that anxiety of trying to learn your locker on the first day of school may not necessarily be there we will have directional hallway so everything will flow in a one directional format on that allow kids to have that physical this thing that we're looking for for the safety precautions students will and staff will do self-certification and we'll also have daily Richard checks for all of our staff and students to ensure that we don't have anything walk in the building that we don't need to for now we will have a close lunch campus until at least October and at that point we'll be able to revisit that I need another question I got it from specifically kids is hiring what does that look like and we'll go into a little bit more detail on that in a little bit again cohorts was one of the biggest questions how are you going to cohort what are we going to go for a cohort is a group of students that will be placed weather based on a couple of factors the first and most important factor for us is guaranteeing their Core Curriculum so for example if I'm in 9th grade students I might be signed up for the four core classes which would be Spanish 1 biology English 9 and so those would be my for Corso we would adore cohort our kid into those four core class and then they would also have some elective options be available so that's our primary way of cohorting so that everybody is getting the same experience in the same class from her highly qualified teachers the other way that were looking at the potentially hoping to Todd Is the participation in extracurricular activities and also having them be with common fears again we know friends is a big reason and a big part of the high school experience and we want to make sure they have some cheers that their friends within their cohorts and then one of the things that's kind of popped up and is one of the more complete please for us at the high school level is we will have some passports which mr. Champion oil go into in a little bit, but it didn't make a whole lot of sense for us to go through all this effort to try and PAW chips during the day and then they go out in to cross country or tennis and Wii we kind of mess up the potting as well so that's why we're looking at trying to pod through extracurricular activities as well course we'll also have elective options in their schedule in a cohort does Stay Together throughout the day so they would come in and they would all go to the same place same space everyday which again is an emphasis of why the outdoor spaces are going to be so important because it would help to break up a little bit of that throughout the day and each cohort will have the same teachers this is the biggest push from the Colorado Department of Ed in from public health is hoarding is our best way to minimize and and reduce risk within our building so if you're only going to see the same funny kid and you have the future the same six teachers coming to see you I'm on a rotating basis then by the house to minimize and reduce the risk that we're taking a look at so that's the main reason that were really focusing on this cohort concept high level here's what you come to expect from us here at Durango high school and I would expect nothing less from us as well regardless of the choice that you're going to make it or three different bottles course rigor is critical our in-person instruction or Blended model will be rghs fridge and it will be given opportunity inability to access all those things that have typically been part of DHS AP and honors classes in the Blended or are in the in-person Blended face-to-face model will be taught by a highly quality AP and honors teachers pirate model that we're taking a look at those use a program called accelerate it is a nationally Betty program that has many different options for courses that are like mostly to ours at the HS so if you're in a place or a space were you just not sure and comfortable that coming back to the Bay this is where you need to be for this ball you would be able to take these courses for a semester that aligned very closely with ours and if you felt comfortable to return back in January you would be able to just transition and spices pretty seamlessly the offering her Career and Technical education which is still a big part of what we do as well the student engagement be so then we know and understand the value of your interaction and of extracurricular activities in the value that they provide for our kids and we want to make sure that we can give that chance in that place in that space imma get everyone in the in their cohort will have fears that they know we're friends that they know I'm because we know that is a big piece of keeping kids engaged in their daily activities and Alexis will still be offered and most likely we're looking at right now is having to offer them in pairs so for example you might have food paired up with business and kids will be able to pick which of those that they would like to potentially take advantage of but just like any case weather in a pandemic or not on sometimes you don't get every single thing that you're hoping for which was the case across school all the time if you want to turn over for a moment right now to mr. So he can tell you a little bit about Workshop it was they released a lot of information out yesterday and I know for many of our families that's an important pieces bar can you unmute mr. camping Lake Forest please are there are doing today I just want to make a quick mention that the chat box doesn't seem to be working so if you have any questions use the reaction tab at the bottom and raise your hand and then address those questions that I come across update from Shasta right now is we have three sports that have officially been okayed for full participation so far I know sports are boys golf which officially starts on August 3rd with competition beginning as early as August 6th the second one is boys tennis and those tryouts official practices will begin August 10th with competitions possibly beginning as early as August 13th and then the third one that's been okay so far as girls softball with the same dates tennis August 10th is the start date for official practices and August 13th as possible participation dates with all three of those activities there will be modifications in the length of season and postseason play and some things like that needs Sports a little bit different so if your student play any of those Sports those coaches have the current bulletins from Shasta imma just to give you an idea girls softball is going to be cut down to a 16-game regular season with no scrimmage is available regular season-ending by October 10th to be able to get the postseason in early and the thought process behind cutting the seasons down a little bit and then getting the regular season's done early is to allow still for and competitions and championships but to try to get those in before what is projected to be possible second wave there's like to get everything in his early as they can so if if we can get that something good then we should be able to get Championship seasons in so those three poor we're still waiting to hear on the rest of fall Sports and right now I think we should hear something soon about cross-country and volleyball and I think the last words that we're going to hear about of the contact sports like soccer and football has the most the most of you have to take into consideration for for the student safety I think Julie has a question you're muted Joy I guess that would help yes I have a question from Tracy Pope I'm sending you a option to unmute thanks I just wanted to ask a question about the pods with Core curriculum upper-level students so Juniors and seniors who are taking different AP classes are headed tended to how will that be able to be we do know that we have you know this handful of kids that are accessing especially in that you knew your you-know-what have upwards of five a piece, and we're going to be creating a pod that would match that in this particular case of course AP Computer Science principles or AP Computer Science a would actually be considered an elective course I'm outside of that core area but we do kind of know all the mirror to combinations that we had and you have especially as we filter up to that upper level Juniors and seniors and we're going to do our best to create or recreate those for kids to take advantage of any other questions with the activities you know this is going to be kind of an ever-changing thing with Shasta and as soon as they get information from the governor's office then we'll get it out to you guys as quickly as possible they are trying to which of the governor's office to get answers so these student-athletes and families can know kind of what to expect and what the plan for as a district Ryan or the District athletic director myself and District staff are looking at the best ways we can approach things as far as travel goes for the sports right now cutting down the number of students that are going to be in a bus or in a Suburban hopefully we can stay awake many overnight trips are all overnight trips of possible to eliminate the the hotel Factor but if we if we do need to do that we will take that into account from the make it the safest that we possibly can within the guy's first team athletes we can to offer the most normal situation possible for our kids and give them these opportunities to be engaged and do some of the things that they love to do outside of their academic so that's the update from the right now if there's any questions please thanks Jordan I have Karen Conley question John my Christian kind of piggybacks on the previous one if you have a student has more as part of a cool college track and maybe a is it possible at that point to switch to a blended model to pick up online yeah I think what were what we're seeing in terms of our ability with a blended to an infant is a little bit of fluidity there but you know we do have it within the accelerate program if we have base with two options are curious if we can go with it we can go in with accelerate with Google more detail here in a minute about what those offering to be but that kid would take 6 classes online and have the supports with us here at the high school we also can do one off if it's if the student wanted to pick up you know if your son want pick up an additional $0.85 he may not have been able to pick up here we could do that through accelerate for them to get that credit as well I'm so there are some there are some fluid and moving parts to this but I'm really we're trying to meet the needs of all of our kids to the best of our abilities we literally just spent four hours this morning going through it was kind of like a war room mapping out how to how many of the different combinations do we have in terms of potting kit with all the requests that are out there so that's that's certainly what is on our minds and trying to meet the needs of our kids the best we can and if we're unable to then how do we bring in our other resources in our district be able to me needs of our students good question thank you any others so we kind of push on all right kind of a little bit more of a painting the picture for you when we talk in-person instruction this is the day in the life of a 9th grader the way that we've currently got him wrapped up that meets our our guidelines is we would have a red day and a white day in this is a special kind of like a rotating blocked the biggest princesses that we would have rotating and we would have everyday elective is the best way to kind of describe it so if I'm a 9th grader coming in and I signed up for biology Spanish 1 honors English 9 and map to what I look like is on my red day I would be taking biology for an hour and a half Ceramics for an hour and a half Spanish one and photo and then the next day I come back on my white day I would take my different Corso honors English 9 elective Ceramics my other Core math II and my stained elective Photography in this allows for each class to be an hour and a half long and Alexis are taking every day nice part about doing the Alexis everyday is it gives us abilities to change pogil active throughout the year depending on the offering, so after I potential 9 week. We might be able to change out an elective to another one that gives our kids a little bit more exposure to the Y. change of classes that were able to provide minion Force instruction outdoor spaces will be used and utilize the best way I think for people to think about that I went to school in the South football is a big saying and so is tailgating I'm so thing I like tailgating spot we would be able to take all of our wonderful green grassy areas and our football field and kind of section off different tailgating spots the classes would be able to access throughout the day, they would always be accessing the same tailgate spot they could still get some outside interactions them outside fresh air mask breaks all those different things that we know where important and give them some sunshine as well so we will be using those outdoor spaces not just for instruction but also for lunch lunch is also probably the biggest question that I gave his Hound what is that going to look like men again we've been asked to have a closed campus for two really primary reasons number one is if we pushed out all 1280 of our kids in community we have a chance for that many things to come back to our building which is certainly what we're trying to minimize and reduce but also our restaurants have some of our restaurants instead we just we couldn't accommodate. If everybody came to the same time for them to be operate within their guidelines so that's cause us to try to think outside the box a little bit on what we're able to do I'm so they will have many different options available including a regular school lunch or Dean and Deli will still be available so they can have the salad choices the sandwich choices parfait choices that they've come to light that even Deli has really grown in popularity over these last few years were also taking a look at possible Community Partnership so maybe one week we have a serious Texas week, were you able to bring in some pulled pork from Sirius X create a want option not way maybe we have the next week would be as be a week we were able to bring in some of their their options as well and then our staff is committed to making other things available like burgers hot dogs different things that give throughout the week so you're not necessarily have to have the same thing everyday and certainly we still have many of our students to bring their own lunch from home and that is certainly an option as well as anybody that does order lunch order what time and day would be delivered to the classroom or then they can either eat in the classroom or they should go out to that tailgate sign that we talked about the heat outside and stretch in front of move around a little bit really what we're looking at in missing person is that idea of what we talked about potentially having a staggered start so if I'm a freshman coming in and I'll go back to the previous slide I would come in and my first class will be at 8 so I would go with Biology from 8 to 9 30 then I would have a little stress break built in there and then the Ceramics teacher would come to our room and we would do Ceramics from 9:40 until 11:10 and then from 11:10 to 11:50 would be lunch and then we will do another hour and a half to Spanish for the teacher would come to us and then. Last hour and a half of the day to put photography teacher come to us wrapping up at three 3 if we were if we had the 9:30 find the number to. David go from 9:30 to 4:30 so it's just kind of gives you an idea of how that slow would happen and what that's going to look like if I choose blood maybe I I I want to be in the building a little bit but I don't fully want to commit for all five days what would that look like so if this is a day in the life of the 12th grader my red days in my white days still apply so on a red day I may come in a play personal finance English 12 cabinetmaking and then right now what we're looking at is unless we have a need that we need to fulfill my things Julie to see your question on that we answer it is they know maybe that's another or you could have an off. So they would be able to leave if they had the eight schedule they could leave at 1:30 or they may not come until 9:30 so it gives our seniors a little bit more flexibility in their day what they're trying to accomplish they would come in and say governments maybe anatomy and physiology that same elective chided making class and then having off. They would be doing that 2 days a week so if you choose Blended you really committing to a Monday Tuesday combo or you're committing to a Thursday Friday, the two days a week you would have been just like our in-person face-to-face and then 3 days a week you would login and attend class regularly I'm following a synchronous class schedule with the same assignment due dates that you would have if you were here five that was one of the big learningzen one of the big pieces that we heard from any of our families from this past spring is it would be wonderful to have the synchronous opportunities and routine and structure in my students day even if we're not in the building itself I'm so that was one of the things that we really wanted to take into consideration the blood instruction utensil days a week just like face-to-face and it is asynchronous learning experience through resume that they would be able to part of the class through the direct instruction all those different things would be taking part remote learning them room hybrid model is incised again one that I'm very excited about the opportunity to present online platform would be monitored by highly qualified BHS teachers in their content area so if I'm a kid who's taking an accelerated math class and I have a question about math you would be working with a math teacher at ghs that can answer you math question same as it was English saying if it was social studies so you are getting that highly specialized content expertise that would allow for students to get their their questions answer pause Julie looks like we have a question yes and McManus I'm going to meet you I think very much hate without I'm Blended model Monday Tuesday or Thursday Friday do the kids choose their days or do you put them in a cohort based on the classes that's a great question but we would look at is we're going to try to attempt to include the blended with in person I have a cohort of 20 kit and I have six of them that have shoes or chosen to Blinded model we would put three of them on the Monday Tuesday we will put Rihanna thursday-friday if we have families that are using one of the considerations I know we need to put into flies if we have families that are choosing Blended across different school is my high schooler my middle schooler my elementary schooler we would make sure or ensure that they are put on the same Monday to today or Thursday Friday schedule we know that that's an important but that way we would be kind of minimizing the number of kids so it would be like 17 on Monday Tuesday 14 on Wednesday 17 on Thursday Friday is that right answer your question we got some YouTube Frank hold on can you hear me I'm sorry about that Sports travel doesn't happen then this isn't the concern but if you have a high school athlete and they're not Thursday Friday group and they're traveling on Friday for their Sports they're missing a lot of nerve yeah that's a catch-22 for a strained just like in a normal school year are typical competitions are going to be Tuesdays and Fridays it is really hot most of the schedules are set up so unfortunately it's kind of 6 in one and half a dozen in the other I potentially could be missing one or both of those depending on my own contest so definitely something we would I think take any consideration to try and match up the best that we can thanks for that question going to jump in back in the use of the accelerated instruction allows for high-quality lessons from regular courses through advanced placement courses as well as a very robust elective class auction and I'll be sharing with you what's what those circulars might be that you would be able to take advantage of difference between none of that in person and Blended is that in the remote hybrid you do not set or follow a set schedule you're creating your own schedule but you do have to follow the deadline are put out there by our teachers so that's an important piece of that that model to it okay Jamie Yarbrough can you hear me enter into sophomore so how are we going to look at these having me write credits for their air condition of the year and like the 60 hours of real-world experience like are we having a moment with like the it's academic advisor how is that going to get looked at so Natalie has and question first of all I want to clarify that. Freer open. That could potentially be available for a senior group is only for those that are on track to graduate as we all know I think this is our first group that has the different graduation coming in at 23 instead of 27 while they're the second group so that's a big factor for us the majority of our kids right now. Senior-level or On Target Northway really only need maybe they're English and math prep super bait around out there minimum requirements the reason that we've chosen this model and end up going to press to make sure that it's the best one for us goes back to that engagement and rigor this allows for a student to still take six classes in a semester but it's still 6 or I know many of the other models across the state they're they're really looking at like maybe one or two credit is it they can get it or they're doing to credits and having to the other keep our kids on track and keep them on track to graduate it will keep them on track with all the different requirements that we have 60 hour requirement is still up in the Let's Go part of the conversation it's been you know we have the 60 hours plus we also have the other graduation requirements that were put in place in addition to just the credits and the state has waves those other graduation requirements at the moment and our board has to determine what direction they're going to go with that and I think we'll get more clarity I'm at some point probably in the next month or so without taking I think right now what we're looking at is they're going to do the senior sat in September 23rd about with the majority of our Front Range schools going to remote, I believe that they're looking at other options right there so we don't really have our data points that we need in order to meet that other requirements are other proficiency that were added to Ark 60 hours will still be there many of our students are meeting those through concurrent enrollment or AP or Fort Lewis or PCC classes that they've taken but will also work with our kids to track through into the progress with her academic advisors to make sure that we've met those requirements so I hope I I know you're trying to convince your question into one Jamie I hope I was able to answer that if you need some clarity just let Julie know okay, yeah sorry sorry I took a second there I think that over all answers that the only other thing that I was going to bring up along that same line is the potential for early graduation with the way things are right now is that something you guys are coming up with a way to do that or if it should be a possibility you know we have and we have our early graduation if you will I'd say if you if you wanted to think through that I would encourage you to talk to Natalie and see if that is something that makes sense and then we would have to figure out the best way to achieve that but it would require Neo kind of typical protocols University academic advisor make sure that Target for graduation we look at the schedule and see if we can make it work you write a letter your student writes a letter and you have a conversation with me to see make sure we have all the information that we need moving forward but is certainly an option Rob has a question for you good afternoon thanks for hosting with a student be able to start specific learning model and then change later on so if they wanted to start with 5 days a week and then go Blended or vice versa or Wheatley virtual would they be able to change what we're asking for where is and you can see it on the slide right here so I'll kind of answer your question while I'm reading this why I'm so if you go with this remote hybrid model you do have a recommended one day a week check in or face-to-face collaboration with the teachers from our highly-qualified BHS teachers if you're choosing the remote model because you just not feel comfortable coming to the building zumaque hours to do the same thing will also be available I want to be very very clear that I heard very loud and clear we did a great job doing prices teaching in the spring but we know with Fidelity that we have to do things different and with more rigor and more relevant for kids moving into this upcoming year and that's why we've really got it in and look closely at these different XLR8 is not just filling out worksheets and doing busy work this will be a valuable curriculum prepare students for their post-secondary success and then to answer your question what we're really asking for is a leesa semester commitment remote hybrid platform and the reason that we ask that as if it's it's going to take a lot of effort and work that we want to do and are excited to do to build these cohorts and if we're really trying to keep our cohorts where we want them to then we have somebody try to go hybrid and then say I really think I want to be in person that messes up that's planning that went into putting all these various cohorts together just to give you guys kind of an idea we're roughly talking about having to pod 53 different combinations of classes and coursework to meet the needs of all of our kids so that's why could there be a little bit more fluidity or opportunity in the Blended to face-to-face or in-person learning yes I think that that would be the case but I would like for us to try and commit to something for. Of time to just ensure that it's working or not working for us yes okay Jennifer Latham has a question I think so much John so with this accelerate is there a way that we as parents can find out a little more about it I just did a quick Google search and like a couple different things not so great western have a question of what I plan on doing for those of you that are interested or kind of intrigued or thinking about what is accelerate how does it look what does it mean for me and my kid I would like to offer another Community session next week probably midweek I'm not going to commit to what they just yet but to do a demo the kind of Drive parents through what the popcorn looks like what the different features are and how that might make sense for their kid and also why it makes more sense for our soon to do this program that it might some of the other options that are in our community, because I do think that we are offering a much better product than you'll see in other places okay great thanks so much and then in the hybrid would like the two days a week and three days doing it from home how about work with some of the electives like CTE ones that are more Hands-On yeah I think that's you know that's some of the work that are CTE folks got kind of used to over over the past spring if I'm doing a woodworking class I still would have to log in and listen to the instruction is being delivered on or about what it may mean for us is that we have to send our Blended kids home with some of the materials or supplies with the things that they can safely do at their own place replace those are definitely some of the considerations that will iron out cuz we kind of finalize this this format okay Carol have a question I have to turn between the models I'm sorry tell you're breaking up just a little bit on me can you go back to the first your question I'm sorry I'm just wondering how that's going to work this year and if it is going is it going to be or is there going to be a programmer does Cecily Strong consideration for us as is band choir theater are all things that I know where our students love to take advantage of and I'm looking at those as a kind of business extracurricular is there a way that we can take some of our band kids and have them put it together and their elective class is music appreciation of Music Theory I think there is still some questions out there that we don't have for a masters to are all around us and what that looks like in terms of choir band of anything where they're projecting or they're blowing into an instrument I think that should come here probably in the next week or two but my intent was still be to keep those together and have them take a course with Mr Finlay that might be just they might be doing music appreciation learning about the music Across Generations while they wait to have the opportunity weather instrument again okay Karma has a question thank you for this session I was just wondering about if you lie through him to spice things up remote hybrid format a lot and you're a qualified teachers is very present in the heart of the sea I just wondered how that compares to the other options the second question will probably get to is just to win and how you'll be we will be so I can air options options are available out there there's one you know is one of the ones that is out there and what I would encourage families to do is to look very closely at their graduation rate in the results that they get for their students and I think it's also important for our community and our families to know that when you select that option taking your per pupil funding that you get for that student and sending it to Colorado Springs you know an end in the same breath we have the school which is more local option but again that purple for people funding is going in spread out across the entire I'm of the southwest region which does not include Colorado in and so is our goals to we wanted to create a high-quality program that would keep families from choosing something else that doesn't keep things for local in our community giving him a high school diploma from Durango High School is another strong emphasis for us oh yeah you're you're picking up on on the the things that I'm putting in a slideshow very intentionally I still think in person and Blended is great and fantastic option for kids for families that are just not in a place or a space were dyed his what they want it was our job to come up with something of high-quality to offer our kids so they can stay connected to DHS okay Galaxy Note 10 has a question let me crystal pipe my son goes to San Juan College stop the day in the morning midday and he's on an IEP so I'm trying to figure out if she could do the full but he's not the day one but just half day yes that would be a very strategic and looking at all of our students with IEPs to make sure they were meeting their needs and be scheduling them in a way that makes sense to me. They're just like all of our students but to meet their learn so that would certainly be an opportunity for him to take like a core core and then be done if he did like the 8 a.m. you could be out the door by 11 and still do his San Juan work down there we got to admit I'm sorry what if I get a follow-up question he's not back so I think almost noon do the afternoon here at the high school definitely if we had that other option that would be a second wave that would go from 3 to 10 like 1:20 would be. Start time okay wonderful thanks so much I'm not trying to pry some push-ups but I have a fire drill at 2 so we legitimately have like a hard stop at 2 so just want to answer a question and then we'll kind of get through the rest of the presentation and I'll hold I'll hold whatever time we got left at the end for continue to and I really want to hit this one and then we can do that okay this is a question from David blough thanks for hosting this first of all and secondly I was curious how is college as well as it's learning yeah so there's going to be a couple of factors answer your question right one we have wait and see where our higher-ed institutions in terms of are they going to go online remote are they going to still hold you know I know there are some professors up at the Fort that are only wanting to do online I'm so not particular case holding you be able to do you do those classes anytime anywhere right but if we if we do need to line up that is one of those 53 combinations that we've talked about that we're taking into consideration the more you would have me know just like the student down to San Juan we would have a same pot that would allow you to flow up to the store to take advice if you need it thank you and on that line of thinking the classes that are being where were previously being High School by CeCe and Elsie are there going to be moving up to the psychology and right now he is for an online for that particular course I have not gotten Clarity on the English offerings yet and don't know specifically which one you're signed up thank you ok Google hold the rest of questions the end but I just want to make sure I get through the rest of the presentation this is just some examples and non-examples this is example of what you can see is in mathematics it goes anywhere from pre-algebra all the way through precalculus in science we have anatomy and physiology biology chemistry all those classes that line up with our current offerings and even some that we don't like paleontology in earth science space exploration there may be small Journeys for kids here to get a little bit more than maybe what they're hoping for social studies we've got our government we've got our Civics so there are definitely a comprehensive offering to go through this and then just want to point out as well you can see the AP offerings we got biology couch and lit Lang government and we've also got electives that matchup like accounting digital media intro to business art appreciation art history really does have that opportunity for kids to get a full comprehensive experience for sure and that again I will be given another opportunity kind of highlight this platform for those of you that are generally interested next week to go in a little bit more I know that everybody did receive our safety plan for the district the return to learn I just want to encourage you to please make sure you review the plan Julie correct me if I'm wrong but I think today or tomorrow is the last day to provide that imput sure that we get your feedback and we take that into account as we're considering I'm on vacations and any changes that might need to be made or things that need to be added it's always like to finish with our values we do do live the demon way we take care each other we support each other we're honest with each other and we take pride with each other and I just the purpose of me trying to put this together is to be honest with you where we're at in this current time trying to provide the best offerings that we can the most comprehensive experience and for your kids what we do know is that this is not going to look like School the way that they have seen it in the past, and part of that is is okay and it gives us a chance and Educators to be really Innovative and maybe do things in a way that's all we haven't done before comida in a special way but it's definitely going to be a little bit different than our hope is that it's not permanent that this doesn't go on forever and we'll be able to make the best of what we're doing right now and carry it on to continue to approve what we do at Durango high school and how we meet the needs of all of our kids a timeline so everybody kind of has what's the next steps where we add if you have any questions that I'm not able to answer today or things up after you get time to think about this and I know that that that's an important piece of time will help you kind of thinking process this because right now it's just a bit a lot of information right now but if you do have questions of pop up please contact your academic advisor if they have all the information that we been working on I'm happy answer any questions that anybody might have tomorrow you're going to get a form sent you which will allow you to declare the learning model your choosing for your different for your child and then we also know as a family that could look different I might choose one format for one of my kids three different ones for the other three right someone that's going to make the most sense for your kids August 10th will be your last day to declare which learning model you're going to want to move forward with and that's a very important day because you can see August 25th is the first day of school so we'll have a pretty awesome 15-day time. So big all of that information Builder master schedule meets your needs in the pots and their cohorts and make sure that we're giving the best possible experience we can for your kid when they were DHS on the 25th but I kind of gives you an idea of where we're heading what those timelines look like we have about it looks like 8 minutes or so left before the fire drill so definitely want to open up an answer any questions for clarity that I can right now okay we have a question from Laura Moore I have a couple of questions and I apologize I got on late so I miss something early on I can always go back and watch the recording but one have you done anything about the heating system tration anything like that number two is there something that would trigger everyone to online learning and numbers 3 How is how are both teachers and going to be enforced so we're a lot of those questions will be answered or could be answered in the community meeting that I know mr. snowberger is going to have that will be focused specifically to the plan happy to answer for you here we do over filtration systems and Oliver HVAC has been tested we have changed out all of our filters Bill knows a lot more our business made in our building maintenance guy but we use a higher-rated find that it's a reduced restrict airflow but it's high enough rating that it captures on everything so that has been put out there and discuss your second question I just drew a blank on was what what would trigger everyone going to online learning and then it's really not going to do we're wrapping up our third week of summer school I mean we did have the masked man they go into effect 2 weeks ago we have room available and if we kind of scream kids and we take temperatures if a kid forgot one this one will have massive elbow and I really haven't had a much of an issue in so I think that you know will be enforced proper mask-wearing will be reinforced it won't be the ones that you see like you know are you hanging off the ear you know we have features do a really good job of reminding students I'm not as concerned about that for sure and then what would trigger a complete the remote again the purpose of the cohort is that it allows for us to minimize the number of exposures that we have throughout the day so if we have somebody in every teacher will be let me rephrase that for every six cohorts will have a teacher interactions six and three of them six in the other if 1 students were to test positive in Coke one must say it would figure that class to be shutdown worst case scenario if there's a positive test and then worst case scenario is if it did something we would have almost a hundred funny kids if we had what would be considered an outbreak and I'm looking to Julie to make sure my my language is right up here to clarify that the cohort if there's a cold it has a case than it would we would work with the San Juan Basin Public Health Board contact racing to see if other cohorts were infected because that child could have a sibling in another school or do in any of those affected cohort. would going to quarantine but it wouldn't be shut down for them they would go into remote learning for the 14 days and then they would return after that and receiving clearance we work very closely with our health and our medical director to make all of those signs of determination an outbreak in our community is considered two or more in-depth again depends on how many quarts there could if there was a large outbreak across many cohorts in the school we may be required to go into remote learning how many candles with directive that we would follow from our local Health authorities and our medical director I think Jimmy and Laura to help in that we are moving to a platform called it's learning across the entire. we also heard very loud and clear that one of the biggest frustrations from this past spring was this one's on Google Classroom this one's all we had we had kids trying to navigate and I was trying to navigate like just Google classroom and it was freaking me out so I can only I know that it now other people are feeling the same way so I'm moving to one platform K12 we're going to have at the high school the platform organized and structured the exact same way so that if we did have to tip it the term that were using to go to remote learning it would happen very seamlessly our staff would still be coming to the building we will still be providing both synchronous and asynchronous experiences in that case and that's the whole reason that we have gone to the spot for me cuz it allows for us and go to remote remote learning in a much easier feasible and smooth way than we know we song question from Jana so I am assuming that the class is selected what if not on the table anymore starting over picking their classes and is the oldest on the student to contact that I can do as much a visor to put a pick out the schedule where I don't I guess I don't quite understand how that works what is not your course selections are going to be your course selections because we know that's what you want to take the place that we might have to have students reach out and have some some choice is the electives that are heard with the core offerings that they're being provided I'm so again if I'm a incoming freshman and let's say I'm a Spanish 2 math 3 biology and honors English 9 kit that goes for classes would be married to where they will try to tie them to the ones that are of interest on but they may not get every single elective that they're hoping for a more that they signed up for kisses the case every year we don't always are able to accommodate every kid their hair salon but our course will be our course are there AP classes that aren't available through over the next week or so but we are we pride ourselves on making me advanced placement access available to all kids and that's going to continue to be our mantra did you want to take one more question John play don't pull the alarm last question is Kelsey Lancaster all right are you there Chelsea shows that your own Merit I'll ask one more time to unmute Chelsea okay I'm sorry I'm going to move on to Ashley Ashley are you there it shows that you're unmuted can you hear me okay try this follows up with the last question you only have 15 days to put pods together but will students receive before the first day of school their proposed schedule yes you would so before which one he said you would know which cohort you have been assigned to and I'm and then we would have more details and information available for you as to what the first day of school going to look like all black and stuff I'm so you would get that info so if they had want to change electives before school they can start that conversation so you know that's a great question again the the electives are going to kind of be tied to the pot and there's not going to be a whole lot of just just like any regular year we don't change electives at the beginning of the year because our master schedule is so tight and so packed but we're going to do our best to try and provide as many of the options that we can for kids to take advantage of because we know for some of your electives are white alright thank you alright well thank you all so much for your time it's great to see your faces obviously wish that it was life but if you have additional questions or things pop up academic advisors myself any of my admin fee we're here and happy to help and look forward to seeing everybody on the 25th take care
