hello and thank you for your interest in the Performing Arts at Durango High School my name is Benjamin Mattson and I'm the theater teacher in the director of troop 1096 so when we're looking at all of the options for Performing Arts at Durango high school they really fall into two categories we have music and we have theater so I'm going to speak to the music offerings first if you're interested in pursuing music we have band we have choir we have orchestra we have a piano we have guitar and we have music this class is available in all of those categories for incoming 9th graders so if you're looking at band look for concert band if you're looking for choir look for concert choir if you're looking for orchestra look for General Orchestra each of those ensembles have intermediate and advanced levels as well the entry level classes for incoming 9th graders were looking at concert band concert choir orchestra piano guitar and music appreciation when it comes to theater there's incoming options available for performance as well as for technical theater so if you're interested in performance and developing your performance skills you're looking to take Act one and if you're interested in developing and learning about the technical aspects of theater that would be Tek one so both of those feed into acting too and text Peter 2 as well as advanced acting and then we also have studio production we spend that class preparing for the final show of our season so again incoming freshman look for a thing one if you're interested in performance and then if you're interested in technical theater and just to speak to the homework for performing arts classes you're looking at about 1 hour maybe two hours a week of outside I'm depending on what level you're at practicing outside of school time so that would be you know playing playing and practicing the music for band and might be memorizing lines and and things like that for theater might be going over your music and make sure that you have your music memorized for require things like that if you have any questions you can email me directly my email is being Mattson be Mattson at Durango schools.org send me any question you have and I can forward it on to the teacher of that specific performing arts class for you so I hope to meet you soon thank you
