Graduating seniors from DHS and BPHS in their caps and gowns can choose to return to elementary and/or middle school(s). They will do a short VIP walk on a red carpet through a cheering section of staff and students. Seniors may choose to hand out letters of thanks to special teachers, and give stickers or encouraging notes to students.
Seniors will have fun, feel honored, and inspire younger students that graduation is an important goal for their future. Younger students will understand that graduation is something their “Future You” can look forward to if they work hard. School staff and students will have a moment to reconnect after many years. We hope this will be an annual event and an end-of-year finale of our district’s Portrait of a Graduate vision.
Graduating seniors are currently signing up to visit elementary and middle schools. We're working to recruit more and have a big turnout. Please encourage graduating seniors to sign up here: Walk Stars Sign-Up Sheet. Please note: This event is just for students and school staff. It's not open to families or the public due to parking and crowd-control logistics. The Walk Star events will be live-streamed and recorded on our district's Facebook page.
Here's the schedule for Walk Star events at each host school:
- Wednesday, May 22, 10-10:15 a.m. - Riverview, Park, Needham, Fort Lewis, Sunnyside
- Wednesday, May 22, 1-1:15 p.m. - Animas Valley & Florida Mesa
- Thursday, May 23, 2-2:15 p.m. - Miller
- Thursday, May 23, 2:30-2:45 p.m. - Escalante (UPDATED TIME)
Here are some logistics for graduating seniors:
- Choose the school you want to visit. It doesn't have to be one you attended in the past.
- Participating seniors can pick up their cap and gown on May 21 (DHS). You must wear your cap and gown to all Walk Stars event(s).
- Provide your own transportation or carpool to the school of your choice.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the walk time.
