Nationally, there were 256 high school student councils recognized as Gold Level Councils of Excellence, 10 of which were from Colorado.
“Receiving a National Gold Council of Excellence Award shows the utmost dedication a school’s students, leaders and staff have made to making their community a better place,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Durango High School has gone above and beyond in elevating student voices to ensure they are establishing a positive climate and culture, as well as fostering academic and social growth for all.”
DHS Co-student Body President Ellie Clark added: “Our officers made it a goal to revamp our council this year after the difficulty of COVID restrictions last year. I’m excited for the future of council, considering the passion and dedication I have seen from members this year.”
To meet the requirements for the National Gold Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, Gold councils must demonstrate successful sponsorship and participation in leadership and community service activities.
