CHSAAs recent announcement presents both challenges and opportunities, but ultimately it is a plan with approval from the Governor's office for all athletics to be played at some point in the 2020-21 school year. There are some general shifts on traditional seasons for fall sports and reduction in the seasons of all athletics & activities this year.
For the fall, Boys Golf - 8/3, Boys Tennis - 8/10, Softball - 8/10, and Cross-Country -8/12 are still happening in the fall and starting with their respective dates. Football, Volleyball, and boys soccer will start at the end of February/beginning of March. Cheer and Dance were moved to the “winter season”. Winter sports (basketball, wrestling, girls swimming and spirit) will begin later than usual on January 4th. The final season of the year will be the traditional spring season (baseball, girls golf, lacrosse, girls soccer, girls tennis and track) starting on April 26th and going into June.
Our middle schools are meeting with their league and could potentially follow CHSAA guidelines and calendar with football and volleyball following basketball, which will begin after 1st semester, matching the high school start date. We are currently exploring potential intramural activities at the middle schools later this fall. Other clubs and activities at the school like theater, band, DECA, Student Council, Skills USA and Knowledgebowl are still being considered and discussed. These activities will likely be held virtually during the first half of the school year or before/after school practicing social distancing.
We hope to keep all of our students who are actively participating at the high school and middle school as involved as possible, as safe as possible. The 20-21 CHSAA calendar presents some unique opportunities for our students to participate in some sports they might not have had an opportunity to try in the past; we hope you take advantage of any and all opportunities this school year! If you would like to contact any coaches for specifics or questions, please reference our coaches contact information on the DHS athletics website.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your patience and support in these unusual times. We will continue to support our students and try to provide our community with the best and safest athletics/activities opportunities that support personal growth, self-esteem development and connection to the community. Below are some important links with more information regarding the calendar shift and how to access activity registration.
