Durango's 2019 Graduate Madalen Meier receives First Place Medal at Educators Rising National Conference

Madalen, a member of DHS' FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) earned her right to compete at the national conference after receiving first place at the FCCLA State Conference in April. FCCLA is the student organization that is part of the Family & Consumer Sciences program at Durango High School. This student organization supports students who are interested in a vareity of FCS careeres from edcuation to culinary arts. 
 
At the Educators Rising National Conference in Dallas, Madalen competed again students from every state in the Educator Rising Moment competition. The purpose of this event is to provide students opportunities to articulate why they aim to pursue a career in education. Madalen presented a personal story as to why she wants to be a Special Education teacher, a profession she has had a passion for since middle school. 
 
Madalen will attend Fort Lewis College in the fall with a Golf scholarship and major in Education.
