DHS Students Prove They've Got the Skills

Approximately 60 students competed across 12 various career, occupational, and skilled trades categories. The students represented five area high schools, including new Region 8 addition Ignacio High School.
 
Students showcased their knowledge and skills in competive categories ranging from Architectural Drafting to Crime Scene Investigation. Nineteen local industry professionals who volunteered their expertise in across these areas as judges.
 
Leading the DHS team were the SkillsUSA Durango officers Dakota Wood, Brian Elvidge, and Seth Thornburg. The trio facilitated the opening and closing ceremonies for the event with confidence.
 
DHS used their home team advantage to lead them to six first place performances:

Seth Thornburg - Carpentry
John Awe, Mazzy Goodwin- Fortier, and Dakota Wood - Crime Scene Investigation
Chief Garbiso - Customer Service
Iz Tenorio - First Aid / CPR
Dakota Wood - Job Interview
Savanna McIntyre - Photography
 
Students Quinten Berridge and Mazzy Goodwin-Fortier took second place in Customer Service and Job Interview, respectively.
 
Qualifying students from DHS will move on to the Skills USA Colorado State Conference and Championships in Colorado Springs in April.
