Elizabeth Testa Memorial Scholarship Applications Deadline Extended to February 8th!

Elizabeth Testa was one of three daughters born to James and Katherine Tucker in Oakland, California. She had an early private education at Dominican Upper School, and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Cornell University and a Masters’ in Fine Arts and Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth held a variety of Job Titles, including Construction Project Manager, Independent Consultant, Publicity and Editorial Director, and Executive Director. Some of her interests included writing, horseback riding, hiking and being with her husband and extended family. Her greatest pleasure came when she took the role of Executive Director of the Durango Education Foundation from 2009 until her passing in 2017. She was passionate about funding innovative programs, extraordinary experiences, and basic educational fundamentals for the students of Durango School District 9-R.
She particularly enjoyed programs and projects which excited and inspired students. She was widely admired by educators and administrators throughout the Durango School District.
To be eligible to apply for the Elizabeth Testa Board of Education Scholarship, you must meet the below listed criteria:
● Graduating from Durango High School or Big Picture High School this academic year
● Earning a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in high school
● Planning to enroll full-time in a career or technical Associate’s certificate or degree program at an accredited community college or college/university in the fall directly after your graduation from high school.
Your application will be evaluated on:

● Individual determination to succeed
● Future goals and plans to achieve them
● Ability to communicate the hardships you have overcome or currently face
● Self-motivation in completing your education
Amount: $2,500 to regionally accredited post-secondary school of choice


¥ Provide cover sheet with contact information including applicant’s name, postal address, e-mail (if available) and phone number. State name of scholarship desired.
¥ Current transcript and senior year mid-term grades; complete senior transcript may be required before scholarship is funded to college.
¥ 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, supervisor, coach/activity sponsor or counselor
¥ 250-500 word essay:
What are your academic and professional goals and how have your life experiences have shaped who you are today and your academic and professional goals?
Deadline: Submit complete application package no later than 5:00 p.m., February 8, 2018. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The Foundation does not accept electronic submissions.

Recipient will be chosen by the Durango Education Foundation Scholarship Committee in conjunction with the 9-R School Board of Education
