While this year’s graduation plan is unprecedented, it is still going to be just as amazing as all the graduations in the past. Please read through these guidelines closely so that we can be sure we are all following the guidelines provided by the state and local authorities.
What: DHS 2020 Graduation!
When: Saturday, June 13, 2020
Where: DHS Student Parking Lot
We will be holding a drive-in style graduation this year in our main parking lot. There are many partners helping us make this auditorily and digitally accessible to families in their vehicles as well as the community at large (even Grandma and Grandpa in Arizona can join!). Read on for important information on your part to make this a safe and successful graduation for our graduates.
- One vehicle per graduate will be permitted to the parking lot for the ceremony.
- Front entrance will open at 8:00 AM, there will not be access to campus prior to this time.
- Vehicles will be able to start staging in the parking lot starting at 8:45 am.
- Each graduate/vehicle will be assigned a letter, as groups of 10 will be made when parking for the purpose of keeping the groups who come up to the stage at 10 or under. Graduates will be called up by their letter group, i.e. “A,” “B,” etc.
- Spectators (not in vehicles) are not allowed on campus.
- All spectators in vehicles must stay in their vehicle.
- Vehicles will be directed to a parking spot on a first come, first serve basis.
- Don’t forget to decorate your car in honor of all our graduates! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
We have partnered with 99X, Durango Local News, Instagram and Facebook Live to provide multiple broadcast options to allow families to tune in.
Vehicles in the parking lot will be able to tune their radios to 99X and XRock to hear the speakers and the reading of the names of all the graduates! The audio broadcast will also be streamed live on 99X’s website at 99xdurango.com and well on XRock’s website at xrock105.com. Also, families who are not in the area can tune into either station through their Alexa or other similar home device.
Durango Local News will also be filming the graduation and streaming the video live time on their website at durangolocal.news. This video will remain in their archive online for viewing and sharing at a later time as well.
Lastly, we will also be broadcasting the ceremony through Facebook Live, so if you have a Facebook page go to the Durango High School Facebook page to tune in that way, and through Instagram Live on the El Diablo page.
All spectators must remain in their vehicles at all times. We have a photographer who will be on site and will take photos of the graduates while on the stage. Information on how to access those photos will be provided soon.
END OF CEREMONY
While we won’t be tossing our caps as we traditionally do, we are asking at the end of the ceremony all cars honk their horns in celebration as the graduates move their tassels from the right to left!
Included below is our behavior agreement. Please take a moment to review this with your graduate and other family members who plan to attend. It is critical that we all follow these guidelines to stay in compliance with the state orders.
Senior Mandatory Virtual Meeting - Please hold June 11th at 1pm for this meeting. Zoom information forthcoming.
We are asking that all families RSVP by 6/10/2020 using this GOOGLE FORM.

Thank you for all you have done to support your student’s success. Earning their diploma and moving into the next phase of their lives is a huge milestone, and we know it is a true partnership to support all these kids and their many different ambitions.
