Katie Brandau hails from the Central Coast of California, from a little beach town known as Morro Bay. She attended the University of California Santa Cruz where she earned a BA in Environmental Studies, and a minor in Politics. Katie moved to the beautiful mountains of Durango shortly after graduating from UCSC, about seven years ago. Katie cultivated her interest in holistic health and mental health after working for Open Sky Wilderness Therapy as a field guide. Inspired by the work at Open Sky, Katie sought after a Master degree in Social Work. While Katie was attaining her Master degree she interned at Durango High School in an academic and mentor based intervention. During her internship at DHS she became interested in the work of school counselors, and applied for an opening as Social Emotional Counselor in Fall of 2016. Katie’s approach in working with students is to be kind and non-judgmental, and meet the student where they are at. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, yoga, and hiking and paddle boarding with her dog Brutus.
